Recording from Yamaha DD65 to iPod Touch
Hi all - I've had my Yamaha DD65 for a bit over a year now and I really can't say enough good things about it. I have a small apartment where sound is an issue (i.e., I wouldn't even be able to play a normal electronic kit, as the electronic bass drum with pedal would make too much noise). So, options to play drums on a daily basis are extremely limited. I tried out this inexpensive "toy," and for a year now, I have been able to play drums on a daily basis. I do have a few small gripes (I wish I could adjust the sensitivity of each pad separately, for instance), but overall, it really gets the job done. The bass "pedal" does not really allow for double strokes, but I'm mainly a double bass player that likes working on my single strokes, and the pedals allow me to play as fast as I physically can without missing a beat.
Anyway, I want to start recording from this thing, but I don't have a laptop, and my desktop is in my room. I would LOVE to be able to record from the DD65 to my iPod Touch, and then transfer from my iPod to my computer to edit, but I'm running into some roadblocks. I bought the iRig yesterday hoping that it would be as simple as plugging a guitar cable from my DD65 to the iRig, then plugging headphones in the iRig and the iRig to my iPod. However, I realized that you actually NEED to have the iRig app Amplitude open on the iPod in order for any sounds to be triggered (at least I think that's the case). Plus, when it is open, the sounds are low and distorted. I'm not sure if that's because the app is putting in effects, or if it's just not compatible. I did see that there is an iRig Midi on the market, but for now, I actually want to try avoid recording Midi and just using the sounds that come in the kit (trying to crawl first, then walk later).
Anyway, I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions to help accomplish what I'm trying to do. Thanks a lot for your help!
