MIDI start Issue-Zoom 123

I have a Zoom RT-123 (drum machine) that I have plugged into my computer using a Edirol UM-2 (MIDI to USB interface) but I can't figure out how to get the drum machine to start. I use PowerTracks Pro Audio 12. I can get the Zoom 123 to play some midi sounds but it seems I need to send a start signal but when I start and stop Powertracks the Zoom does not start playing the pattern, it just plays the metronome midi note or other midi notes that are playing in Powertracks. Any suggestions? Thanks very much.
