How do I make Linkin Park style intro beats?

Hi,
I really want to cover some Linkin Park, but in almost every one of their songs they have a crushed drum beat at the intro, usually continuing throughout the song.

How can I make that sorta sound? I have cubase if that makes a difference.

think it just soundfx to imitate the vinyl,hiphop do that often,the scratch,...lofi....

Most likely a graphic EQ with most of the bass and some of the top end knocked off will get you there. Maybe a mild overdrive and touch of stuck phaser.

In the End is an example of a DJ scratching a drum beat. Difficult to reproduce without being a DJ, and having their kit. It's possible - but certainly falls under the 'advanced' heading of production!

I can make you a quick tutorial on how to produced a crushed drum kit ( a la :Drum Distortion ) if you want?

What, a drum track with the eq and od and phaser? I've tried stuff like that before and have occasionally added a bitcrusher but the whole beat sounds very broken up and not too smooth. And whats a stuck phaser? I've never heard of it before :confused:

It's a phaser with the sweep speed set to 0 - ie stuck in one position.

I've not added a phaser in the video - but used a free glitcher. I could add a phaser if you wanted to hear the difference. I'd probably prefer a flanger, imo!

Thanks a lot, noodles! I think for the in the end cover i might be doing i'll probably just sample the beat anyways, but im definetely gonna use this sort of thing in some original songs i should be doing soon. Thanks a lot!!! :D

It'd be interesting to compare the two - they're both comb filters after all.
