Light, compact 2x12 cabs - any tips?

At a guess i'd guess somewhere around 18-20kg, maybe (maybe even a bit less :confused: ). But that's just from feel, which is probably rubbish.

And i mean if you're willing to discount a cab which'd be perfect (i realise you're not the threadstarter) just because it has a silly name, then i can't help you. :D

It's really created a problem for me now with having light weight amplifiers (although still somewhat a rarity) on the market. Before hand, I'd just get on with it an lug my gear around, moaning under my breath. Now any potential amp purchase is always being researched on how heavy it is no matter how good it might sound! :confused: Maybe i should just get down the gym! :p

Any thoughts about this Jim Root 2x12? It has Orange's own speakers in but it is a proper Orange so would look the biz with my TH-30. It's a lot cheaper than a normal closed-back PPC212.

It's not always that simple, as the tone controls are before the speaker....

Is anyone else out there starting to get fatigued by people whinging about how heavy their gear is?

GET A GRIP.

Nobody has forced you to learn the electric guitar.

If you don't like carrying heavy gear, learn the flute.

I had someone come in the workshop the other day who had brought a trolley for their Trace Elliot Brat, a 15W transistor practice amp.

I had the alto sax player in one of the bands I play with saying he wished he did more gigs with misery stick (sorry clarinet), because it is lighter.

And don't get me started about bass players.

i thought i was learning a musical instrument, not buffing up for world's strongest man

Don't really want to play the flute... i don't get on with wind instruments as when i get nervous my breathing goes

Maybe I am a wuss. :confused: But I'll take on anyone who calls me a wuss for not liking to carry heavy gear in a playing contest (someone else can carry in my gear) and we'll see who's a wuss then.

I mean... give me the option of listening to someone who's a good player who lets someone else carry their stuff (you'd think there'd be a job carrying stuff... maybe we could call them "roadies"? ) or someone who can't half play who lifts in their own stuff so they're not a wuss, and it's pretty obvious who I'd rather listen to.


(I'm not really ranting here, I'm saying this in good spirit/tongue in cheek, but still i think it's a point worth making)

So is an electronic (bi-amp) crossover but it still does a splendid job of directing treble and bass to where they need to go!

As for lighter gear. I have suffered with sciatica for 20 odd years so I am mindful of what I carry!

My son is in France sans car and I think there is a limit how far most people can carry a 30 watt valved combo and a Strat? I am therefore looking at a solid state jobbie for him for Crimble.
