Spastic Ink - To Counter and Groove in E Minor (awesome content)
Pete Perez's bass playing throughout this track is just incredible, whether he's... umm... countering, or indeed grooving. This video doesn't have the best sound quality, though...
It's epic - the counter-melody he plays to the guitar, and then those ridiculously tight groove sections. He never really over-plays, he just does what the song seems to require, whether it's locked-in rhythmic stabs in the "groove" parts or fast neoclassical runs in the "counter" sections.
Then at 2:15... that bass solo is the best I've ever heard, hands down. Nothing else I've listened to has come close to it, as far as proper bass solos go.
I wonder why Mr Perez does not appear to be better known.

Quite liked that. Sounds like Al DiMeola and Anthony Jackson, but with spikier guitars :)

Very skilful bass playing there, but the whole thing suffered from a bit of Chick Correa style musicians trying to sound like MIDI

+1
It can be quite hard work after a couple of minutes... Pity the vocalist never turned up otherwise the band could have played a few quarter notes now and again and let the melody speak for itself.
Melody?
"Screw you guys, I'm being paid by the note."*
*bear in mind that I used to play for a death metal band.
