I've never had any problems with EB's either. You guys must pick really hard or something..... I can't remember the last time I broke a string.

Elixir ftw!
That is all :)
He's just living up to his nickname :).
He was called Slowhand for the slow handclap he got when changing strings at early gigs; he would never take a spare guitar and apparently wasn't too quick at restringing.
Yuck. Probably my least favourite string apart from the D'Addario coated ones, and even that's close...
Had a *lot* of Elixirs break at the post too - usually when slackening the tension, oddly. Mostly if you need to take them right down to adjust a truss rod or something, but not always.
So much so that I'm always mildly surprised when they don't!
I usually find Elixirs break at the head, but not often enough to be an issue- only 1 or 2 a year at most. Having such Xenomorph-like sweat I don't have a choice really..
I doubt this. He always plays Regular Slinkies (10-46) on his Strat AFAIK.
He bends a lot and plays with a fair degree of right-hand attack.
On each occasion he has moved the string out of the way and carried on playing, only changing guiatrs once he finished the song. The casual way in which he deals with it would suggest its a common problem. He should try another brand!

Googling 'what strings does Eric Clapton use' seems to reveal many sources suggesting this isn't the case. I met guitar builder Danny Ferrington once, who toured with Albert Lee when he played in EC's band. He told me that he offered to 'sort out' Blackie for EC; it had a high action, was badly intonated and was generally hard to play... EC declined - he liked it just the way it was - and according to Danny Ferrington, EC made it sound magical every night...
