Baja Tele Bridge Headache

Hi Folks,

I love my Baja Tele. It's nicely put together and sounds great. But the vintage three barrel saddle style bridge is causing some intonation problems. No matter how accurately I tune it I'll always come across a chord voicing somewhere on the neck that sounds bad.

Is there anything I can do with the current hardware to fix this problem? If not, is there a retrofit bridge with six saddles that anyone would recommend? I think, if possible, I'd like to try and keep the saddles brass. Is there such a thing?

If that don't work for you, Wilkinson do a set of compensated brass saddles.

Awesome, thanks for the link. Think the Wilkinson one looks very similar and a lot cheaper, so may go for that option. Thanks though.

Not personally, but these folk have and approve!

I've got a Baja and have some intonation wobbles, but I always thought that was part of the Tele 'sound'.

Yeah, I've heard people say it's part of the character of the instrument. It's just niggling me! Jeff Buckley played a 'top loader' Tele with six saddles, and played all these wonderful chord inversions up the neck without any weirdness. That's what I'm after. I play lots of arpeggios and high up picking parts that need to be as spot on as I can realistically get them.

Well, try the compensated saddles then. Axerus do them for £7.50 delivered. You'd be daft not to try at that price!

If you're still not happy, then get a new 6-saddle bridge.
