There was also a couple there who were looking to book us for a wedding hence things like 'Pretty Woman' and 'Suspicious Minds' were added at the last minute (they booked us so must have worked).

Same here, started with the idea of picking lesser played songs (Led Zeps Living Lovin' Maid was one rather than Whole Lotta Love or Rock'n'Roll)
Then you get the 'Play something we know' heckles and resort back to the usual stuff.
You've got to give the audiance what they want, (he who pays the piper....) but also keep the band interested. Difficult one to maintain for years that, but then we've only recently got back togther so I've enjoyed playing the ones I got bored of last time around (apart from Sweet Home Fricking Alabama...how I hate that song )
Yes I have got some of the staple songs in there - but I think everyone will know everything else thats on the list - not looking for bizarre b'sides or 20 minute solos...
Also having two female singers, one of which can do rock really well and one that can do aretha and soul really well helps a whole lot....
Female singers? Hope there's a Pink song or two in there as well..
