So, Ive been speaking to a mate about his electronic kit and using it live but Ive never seen an electronic kit being used live.. Anyone got any good videos of them being used live?

I've done it and it's horrid - at least for a while.

You need a REALLY good PA and excellent monitoring - arguably with a seperate monitor for the drummer that JUST does drums.

Also, you need guitarists and bassplayers that will turn down backline massively to compensate for the lack of on-stage volume.

Drummer has got his own PA speaker and headphones so I think he's already thought of that thankfully.

Sound wise I think he tends to go for more dance styles rather than traditional drum kit sounds..

No videos I'm afraid, but I used to play in a Classic Rock covers band and for a short while we had a drummer who played an electronic kit.

So long as they are used with a decent monitor mix, it doesn't make a lot of difference really.

Both the onstage and FOH sound can be lower with an electronic kit, should you wish...but then again it can be whacked up a lot louder too!

If your drummer creates a nice balanced sounding kit and the PA mix is right, it can in actual fact sound a lot better than an acoustic drummer pushed into the corner of a pub against the banquette seating, with a kick drum mic if he's lucky.

From a sound guys point of view, great for setting up ect but extreme care must be taken with choosing the drum sounds and any effects added to the samples.Have on a number of occasions been given left and right from a kit which has been bathed in reverb then when amplifed into a big hall just sounds Yuk. Give me 8 dry feeds from an elctronic kit then yes please!

We used one for our functions band and it was amazing.

So much easier to get a good mix in a small room.

For a few gigs we used the bass DI'd out of his amp and an XLR out of my Tubemeister with both amps quiet so it was just for our own monitoring and then everything else out the PA.

Mix sounded great and it was quiet enough on stage to not need earplugs!

    The drummer hated it though....
