I used to make a point of watching all the other bands, giving them feedback etc.

Then I got wise, and left the venue altogether for somewhere more quiet where you can enjoy the company of your mates. And when you don't enjoy the company of your mates any more, make a point of turning up 15 minutes before you hit that stage.

And just don't do the touring thing. It's boredom, uncomortableness and misery all the way.

Definitely, you have to get out of the venue, unless you genuinely like the other bands. Which is rare.

Find out the time of your set, then go to a nice peaceful boozer, sort the set list, Have something to eat (but not too much, you don't wanna have the podge whilst trying to rock out), have just the right amount to drink (I find a rough guide is to start drinking about 2 hours before the set) and get back 10 mins before you're due to play. Usually works out pretty good for us.
