Wedding gig in Port Talbot last night.
Arrived to discover we were playing in a tiny room...to 40 guests. Not a promising start.

However...GREAT crowd! Really good night, dancers all night and really enthusiastic singalong parts. Real surprise of a gig.

Midnight Hour played its first gig last night. Was at The Ten Bells (my local). Many of the regulars were there who may not have been normal Saturday night drinkers but they turned up to see what we were like. 3 households in my street were represented. Large numbers of family & friends of other band members were present.

Everybody had a good time, I could see that from where I was standing (or perched on my tall stool which I do to save my back). Lots of huge grins, expressions of being highly impressed, and offers of drinks followed afterwards. One regular wanted our contact details so he could recommend us to a venue he knows in a nearby small towm, and another who runs the local private car hire and spends a lot of his time ferrying corporate bigwigs between airports and their homes or business premises wanted a pile of business cards so he could recommend us for corporate functions.

Not everything was played the way I thought it should, but we still enjoyed ourselves, and I would like to think we will soon be ready for the weddings & functions market that we're aiming at.

Had a phone call yesterday to help out a band on bass, yep ok I say and put the phone down after agreeing details.
then wife says, you got a bass then ? Thats when I realised I didn`t I had sold it last year
So rang a mate and borrowed his bass and turned up at the gig in Bridport Dorset. Depping songs such as Radar love/Boys are back in town etc gets a bit awkward with no set list and singer/guitarist can`t remember what keys are at times, luckily he remembered to tell me they tuned down to Eb, as we went on stage to start!
Still was a good gig and audiance seemed to like it.

To mark the end of Louise & Steve's time at the Ten Bells, Louise asked me on Wednesday if Midnight Hour would play again there this evening. I said I'd do what I could.

It won't be all of Midnight Hour (only 2 out of 6 - others are away/out of the country) hence we'll probably go on as 20 past Midnight, but I'm priveliged to have the help of ESBlonde, and we're intending to do acoustic versions of a lot of the stuff that went down so well at the Ten Bells 3 weeks ago.

    Cool New Band Tonight

Got a blues-rock gig a the Plough in Shelford, Cambs for 8.30pm tonight, but I didn't have a band, so I've recruited a bassist and a (crackingly-good) drummer, had two half-hour run-throughs of 33 songs with the bassist, and lo & behold, Hot Ammo Cold Shot is born! I last did a full-length blues-rock power trio gig in 1995, and I must say I'm more ridiculously excited about this gig than I any other of the 500 or so I've done in the last 17 years :-)

I can appreciate that, I had a phone call a couple of years ago to fill a date as second singing guitarist in a pub rock band at the weekend, gets nearer the weekend and turns out I'm the only singer guitarist and the drummer and I haven't played with each other for 25 years, and neither of us have played with the bass player. Having not done pub rock for years I needed a get together, I think we spent about an hour and a half finding stuff we all knew that I could sing, then top and tailed the set of about 28 tunes.

Gig night was very exiting two days later. I must do it again some time. Hope you had a great time.
