Default Get in the zone with a nylon string

Wanted to share with you folks the joy of nylon string. I keep trying to learn electric and I'm crap at it, despite good equipment. Have a couple of decent acoustics - I sing a bit and I now try the odd different tuning but I still don't know what I'm doing. Tonight kids were in bed early and dog was knackered. What, time to myself? I put on some candles opened a bottle of Rioja and got some mellow tunes going such as Etude in E Minor and Claire de Lune. Wonderful atmosphere - absolutely nothing beats the tone of a good nylon string guitar, and when it resonates against your chest you are in guitar nirvana :-) If, like me, you don't read music I thoroughly recommend a book published by Registry of Guitar Tutors called, unimaginatively, The Classic Collection. Go get it, then light some candles and lose yourself...If any shredders have strayed onto here and think that's a bit sissy, remember Rodrigo and Gabriella prefer it on nylon string - and they shred better than you do :-)

Mine is a flamenco one - a Cashimira. They make classicals as well. For me the flamenco version sounds great, with its high tension strings, playing blues, classical as well as flamenco. Of the more mainstream brands, you can't go wrong with Takamine. They make some great electro acoustics inc nylon strings. My son has one which is quite old but sounds awesome. I got it on eBay. I'm no expert, by any means, other recommendations welcome!

Dear god no. Look at nice proper nylon strings with wood backs. Loads of good makers around, and an ovation will never give you the tone and projection of a well made classical / Flamenco / Nylon Jazz. That awful clip of Ynvie playing an ovations should be enough to put you off.

I would also look at the 50 easy classics series which I think are done by Jerry Willard

Buy a proper classical or flamenco guitar - you can buy cutaway models with a pickup as well Do not buy a nylon acoustic - the sound is rubbish

Mr Vinnicombe sir can we have a thread for nylon guitar

Add Nylon Jazz to that list. They have a 14th fret neck joint and cutaway, but the body is jumbo sized and slightly shallower, so they sound as rich and full as a concierto guitar. They are miles easier to play.

Irish terrier named Seamus. Will get a pic of him in my profile later. He's a bit full on today. 8 months old and eating everything. I'm off to take him out before he gets to the guitars.
