You'll love the Grizzly Man Soundtrack then :

Actually that's much less bad than I expected. I think it's mostly because the tone is much less clinky and quacky than he usually uses, and possibly because without a song structure to disturb, the off-kilter phrasing sounds good. Still not really my cup of tea though. (A second listen was probably enough.)

It is a difficult one for me - I really want to like his playing, and I know I should! But his normal electric sound just irritates me so much it overpowers anything I like about his music to the point I can't listen to it .

re-watched that clip of Shoot Out the Lights, I do like his guitar tones, gets a bit smoother on that Grizzly Man track. I like the playing on that but would rather hear it in the context of a song I suppose.

I guess his sound is in the ball park of modern country rather than blues or rock but works fine for me.

I will get round to putting some sort of list together. But certainly check out:

    Rumour and Sigh
    Mock Tudor (first side elec)
You, me, us? (first disc elec)

Of the Richard and Linda stuff the first and last are the best (I want to see the bright lights tonight and shoot out the lights)

The Fairport years are classics of course, buy all of the albums featuring RT and Sandy Denny. There's also an excellent BBC sessions record with the early Fairport sessions on.

I got into Fairport rather post Richard Thompson, saw them about 4 times in a couple of years, ooh , gosh 20 years ago. Just wonderful live although couldn't really get into the records.
