Going it alone! - backing tape possibilities...?

Hi all,

I've been playing the small venue circuit for a little while with my band, Pocket Messiah and enjoying it thoroughly.

Now the thing is, circumstances are dictating that we must take a bit of a break.
I want to keep playing though...

So, as we are a three piece and as I sing and play guitar, I thought I might go down the route of a playing along with backing track of bass and drums.

to enable me to trigger backing tracks with my feet (as some of them come in after I've started playing).

Anyway. I feel that if I record a backing track with drums panned hard to the right and bass hard to the left that these could be split to two channels on the PA (maybe the bass even into an amp).

I'll record them pretty dry and try to get a good balance of the various drums in the kit (this might be tricky with different venues' acoustics though)

What do y'all think? Will it work? Will it sound together? Will the average small venue's PA be able to deal with it ok?

Well looking at the cherub the first thing that springs to mind is don't use it live with your guitar plugged into it! Use it purely as the source of bass and drums. I'm not convinced that MP3 quality through a decent pa will be good enough, in my opinion wav is way better . With regards to venue pa's that really does depend on the pa itself if its already used for a full band then you should get away with it if its just vocals then you might be lucky but probably not.

Plenty of bands use track to fill out there sound so you plan is ok its just going to take a lot of rehearsal time to get it to sound right. It is however a great way to get your timing spot on, tracks don't suffer from sloppy timing, tired drummers,extended solos or let do the last verse agin because the crowds loving it!

Yeah Wav is the way forward.
