Default IT bods, External hard drive needed

I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a crazy bargain, I need an external hard drive that I can load up with movies and take with me when I go on my hols. Needs to be portable preferably 1tb and cheap.
Any makes I should avoid and where's the best place to go? Maplin, comet, pc world?
    Any advice appreciated
    Thanks

I can't help with specific manufacturers or models. What I will say is that I have an old hard drive which I bought a USB caddy for and it works great, so you might be able to save some pennies by buying the harddrive separately and getting a cheap caddy. Though, the hardware gurus may have alternative opinions.

I suspect Maplin might have some decent offers on, but Dabs, Scan, eBuyer (yuck) will have very keen prices and lots of choice.

On another note, do you really need 1TB for movies for a holiday? How long are you going for?

I have a Western Digital external HDD and it's pretty good. I would check in PC world as they sometimes have offers on. Amazon might be worth a look into too. Alll of them are portable, but you will most likely need a power supply for them.

The original plan was to get a dongle to take away, 250gb or something like that, 20 or so movies just to give us some choice but they're much more expensive than I thought so I decided an ext hd would do the same thing it's just a bit bigger, then I thought if I'm gonna but a ext hd I might as well get one I can use at home after hence the 1gb

There are loads of 1TB hard drives around that done need a PSU. just plug straight via USB and away you go.

I've got the Western Digital my passport as theyre know to be pretty reliable and its got all my backups and everything on there.

but there are cheaper ones about. but 1TB ones are usually about £85-£120 for a decent one i'd imagine though.

I haven't looked at prices, but you're probably right to buy bigger. You'll probably save £10 getting a 500MB drive, which is poor value.

+1 I work in the apple store (i know people say its expensive, but if you see it cheaper somewhere else, they'll match it there and then for you) And you can double the storage size for literally £20 or something rediculous!

The prices of these external hard drives have gone up recently.

www.ebuyer.com is a good online trader as is www.mymemory.co.uk.

    Check this:- http://www.ebuyer.com/255185-buffalo...d-pc1tu2-bb-eu

    No separate power supply needed.

Do look out for this feature, as some of the bigger drives need their own, separate, power supply

I have two Western Digital Elements 250GB external drives, which I use to back up each other.

Do be adivised that 1TB is a lot of data to lose, assuming that you fill it, if the drive becomes faulty (when you least expect it). So, make sure you backup your data!!!!

Off to sunny Spain viva espania, it's just to watch the occasional movie of a nighttime after a hard day by the pool, I don't like only having three films which you know you have to watch wether your in the mood for that sort of film or not iykwim.
