A fair point; my technique's not all it could be so I'm guessing any sound guy who knows what he's doing and has the kit to do it will be compressing the hell out of my snare and kick. The thing with my current band is that the rhythm guitar is a bit of a 'wall of sound' job, so I find myself hammering the hats and ride so everyone else can hear 'em just to keep things in time. Which has the unfortunate byproduct of making my crashes comparitatively quiet, so I'm going to need louder ones - it's a vicious circle

I should think for the kind of venues we're looking at playing in the immediate future soundmen'll get away with just miking my kick, snare and possibly toms though; I recall in Sweet Seduction the metal our drummer was using was so loud that they didn't even need overheads in the Robin 2 in Bilston (a 600+ capacity venue)

In a rehearsal situation theres loads of shit you could try that wouldnt work live but most of it might be down to direction of sound + volume & frequency just experiment with tone controls & direction of speakers .No one here really know what is happening in your rehearsal situation.
