    Default APX500 vs V300

Right, need opinions here, I can't decide which acoustic to get.
I've really been interested in the Vintage V300 lately because of the rave reviews and the price, but I got offered to buy and Yamaha APX500 yesterday used for roughly the same price.

Anyone had experience with both guitars?
I've played an APX500 before, but I can't remember how I felt about it because it was a while back now.

Which, in your opinion would be a better buy?

Having played both, it partially depends on your needs. The APX 500 is primarily a stage guitar, it sounds pretty quiet and uninspiring if not plugged in. Nicely made though, Yamaha QC is pretty good. Through a decent acoustic amp or PA it will blend nicely with a band, maybe a bit plasticy solo.

The Vintage V300 is a great guitar for the price and sounds good, but it can be a bit ragged around the edges in terms of QC - nothing major, mainly cosmetic, but it might need a bit of a set up. However, it has a better unplugged sound than the APX, in my view.

Resale value will probably be better with the APX, although the APX II are available now for a pretty keen price.

    Get the Vintage.

    Yamaha APX... just no.

Is that just the 500, or APXs in general, John?

I've never played an APX of any description that didn't sound thin, harsh and artificial - and that's amplified, they're even worse unplugged. Horrible things, completely unworthy of the name on the top.

No contest for me, the Vintage.

Unless you REALLY want a slim bodied electro...

I'd still have the Vintage though!

Erm probably around £150, absolute max.
Looking to spend between £75 and £125 used though.

V300. My son's has developed into a real tone machine and the quality is non to shoddy either.
