I struggled for ages to get an actual volume increase - seemed like everything I stuck in front of the amp just added more drive, not actual volume. In the end I stuck an Award Session solo booster in the fx loop. This is basically a footswitchable volume pot and acts like a master volume...so you get a proper volume increase.

btw - any clean boost pedal, or an equaliser in the fx loop will do the same job...

Quite fancy the Meat Jr for boost and maybe even the fuzz.

    Anyone tried them?.......

No, but I've had my eye on an Enveloope for a while. They have a good reputation but I think it'd be worth trying before you buy. As it usually is.

It's cool because dedicated boosters pride themselves on not colouring your sound but when I boost for a solo or whatever I like to boost the treble and mids.

You can do what you like with it and the potential volume hike is massive if you get lairy with the controls.

I used to use a GE7 but I used it as a boost by switching it off. I set it to be on attenuating the signal so that for a boost, you really got what I'd paid for the amp!

I'm trying to get away from using my fx loop (coz it sucks tone quite badly) and today I impulse bought a Boss GE-7. Haven't tried it yet, but the guy insisted it would be able to give me a decent solo boost in front of the amp.

I'm fairly dubious, coz I tend to use a fair bit of pre-amp gain anyway and like I said before everything else I tried in front of the amp just added gain and didn't really make the solos stand out at all. But he was saying if I hike the mids and highs and a bit of level it should do the trick.

    Waddaya reckon?

Anyway, I'll give it a try...it's on sale or return!

You could try using the TS7 as a boost, just keep the gain way down.

I got a Blackstar HT-Boost after reading the Guitarist review. I wasn't disappointed. BTW put boost box at the end of the FX chain just before amplifier input.

That should work in theory, but it depends how much gain you're running when you say "a fair bit". I tried that exact setup once at a gig and I just got more fizz, but I was undeniably using too much gain.

even if you've not got much headroom left at the front end you may find that judicious use of the sliders and gain on the GE-7 gives an apparent boost by shifting the freq - just as a treble boost pedal does
    Red ones are better.
