    Default fekin B&Q shite doors

Bought 5 internal doors white panel from B&Q - yes I know they were "budget" but still ........as the carpenter had hung them he phoned me and said" think youd better come and look at these" I went to the house and fek me! the doors are warped in strange ways across the cross panels bending inwards on the top and outwards in the middle - looks like theyre a scene from hall of mirrors or summat. I sent pictures of the warped doors ito B&Q customer service centre with a complaint

Anywayhoo, after much conversations over web and stonewall type phone calls from them I asked at the trade centre in the local B & Q who said "oh yes we've had trouble with those - a bad batch". B&Q customers service centre idiots however are saying all sorts of shite like " its the way you've hung them" and " it's the environment" FFS the environment is in a house thats what they're for

I've asked for a refund/replacements and compo for the price to get the carpenter to fit the replacements but so far they've only offered a replacement which I've refused. They now are saying that they want the manufacturer to come and inspect the doors in situ before considering the matter further.

I'm thinking that since my contract for the iffy goods is with B&Q and not the manufacturer - I shouldnt be arsed with the inspection and no co-operate......what thoughts?

thing is with these cheapo doors, they're made from hardboard and angel wings. So are always at risk from a fly's fart warping them

It really is worth spending a bit more and getting wooden ones, and painting them if you have to.

The problem with doors like that is they are made from a very cheap frame round the edges, a very thin veneer surface and (occasionally) an egg crate type filling.

This means that they will warp in any sort of temperature/humidity change. Can almost guarantee they have been badly stored at some point.

What should have happened though is the joiner hanging them should have noticed they weren't fit for hanging before he did the job (it wouldn't have taken much for him to offer the door up to the opening and check the fit before putting the ironmongery on and hanging it). That is something I have came up against a number of times in my years in building - tradesmen of all descriptions fitting defective materials and expecting paid for it rather than saying the stuff is crap at the beginning and not ruining it by fitting it.

So I can understand the shops reluctance to pay for refitting (annoying though that might be). They will be hoping that they might be able to straighten the warping by weighting the problematic points down (it does work eventually)

I was looking to get two Broadland White 6-Panel Pre-Painted Wood Effect Interior Doors from my local B&Q. What I found was that the entire set of doors they had on display in their upright racks were badly dented/damaged around their bottom corners. I drove to another branch and saw the same thing. Damn!!!

I am going to try again during the holiday weekend.

We got 6 internal doors from Todd's Doors.

Once you have it sorted and are looking for something decent I can really recommend them.
Don't buy their hinges though- they are marked up, just go to a builders depot.

I bought these from Wickes (always the best destination for cheap chainstore goods imo)

The look and feel (and weigh) like oak, and at that price are a ridiculous bargain.

Can't quite believe it, but oak is cheaper than pine at the moment. I think a lot of it is coming in from China...(my new oak bedroom furniture has Chinese labels on it). Lovely stuff though and certainly way better than any egg box and hardboard crap.
