Default Which distortion/fuzz for The Pusher ?

As one who only ever uses od, need some help here. I can hear that it is a fuzz (obviously an early one) with lashings of reverb, but how would I best get that tone with a modern (small footprint) analogue pedal ?

I would actually pick the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz - I know it's not fashionable to put the words fuzz and Boss in the same sentence (and it's discontinued so you'll need to go on Ebay or something) - but it's a very versatile fuzz that plays nicely with all other effects and amps (being buffered), and has a very wide range of fuzz sounds... two modes (mid-boost Fuzz-Face-ish and mid-scoop Big-Muff-ish), with two-band EQ, plus a clean boost mode so it's still useful for all those other songs you don't want a fuzz for, and not just a complete waste of board space!

It's maybe not the most "authentic" vintage-style fuzz but it's an extremely good introduction to fuzz for someone who doesn't normally use one.

Had both a Big Muff and a Soul Bender, but didn't get on with either, the former was just too much and the latter was anti-social - it didn't like the other pedals. Now to check if the FZ-2 is analogue...

Yes it is! (I wouldn't have recommended it otherwise .)

It's far more versatile and better-behaved than either of those two pedals.

You can authenticate that sound with a combination of Chandler Tube Driver, or Ibanez TS 808 (cranked) and spring reverb at about 25 to 30% on almost any amplifier.

FZ-2 on EBay right now but going for way more than I want to spend. Like the idea of OD plus reverb, but pretty certain I read (somewhere/sometime) that was a fuzz sound. So think it is distortion I want not pre-amp OD. Sold my ts anyway, been pondering a Blackstar HT-Dual, but maybe go for a 'modern' germanium pedal, give that vintage idea another try. Maybe up for a classic RAT too at the right price.

EHX Germanium 4? In its OD mode it seems to do a good fuzzy edge thing and then you have the distortion side for those neccesary wig out moments.

It seems to have that lighter fuzzy OD which doesn't swamp the sound and sounds in the ballpark of whats on the Pusher. big but fairly cheap.

you'll have to wade through the wig out bits to where he demonstrates a subtler side of things.

I don't think I'd go for an HT Dual for vintage style sounds, I have tried them and struggled to get older tones - IMHO they aren't really designed for that.

If you don't fancy spending alot Behringer make a clone of it. From all the demo's i've seen of it, it's pretty damn close to my original one (and at a fraction of the price it's more than close enough!). If you end up loving it then you can bide your time for an original to come along cheap and if you don't then it doesn't really matter.

This is the cheapest one on ebay: LINK!
