    Default New ZZ Top songs/EP

    New ZZ Top anyone??!

    Love this new song! http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...reuse-20120604

Better than the others I've heard off their new EP "Texacali" so far though but either way they're all good - this is just the best!! I hope this one makes it on to the album when it finally surfaces!

There was a track leaked out onto youtube a while ago that seemed to get a poor response. Fair do's it was bloody awful.

This is a bit more early ZZ Top, maybe a bit closer to what was expected from a Top- Rick Rubin collaboration. Liking it but not blown away.

Am I the only person that actually liked their last album, Mescalero? Was underwhelmed by them live, and a bit disappointed they didn't play a single song off it.

Mescalero didn't do much for me, but I like this.

Thanks to the OP for the heads-up!

Are you kidding? I love Mescalero!! I think it's a great album. It was the first I heard of ZZ Top. I'm only young so forgive me for my ignorance but I've since got Eliminator, Recycler, Antenna, my own copy of Mescalero, XXX and Rhythmeen Tres Hombres.

I would say their most disappointing/underwhelming works have to be XXX

I didn't enjoy "I Gotsta Get Paid" off the new EP but I do dig the one I posted here.

Opinion: they chose the worst song from the EP for that advert.

    Chartreuse is the best song.

I Gotsta Get Paid just ...no.

It's like Aerosmith's new [old] song, Legendary Child contains the line “I took a chance at the high school dance, never knowing wrong from right”

    What was the point?

OK so now I finally got round to downloading this EP.

Overall, I like it and now have high hopes for the album proper.

    Other thoughts:

I actually like I Gotsta Get Paid best so far, sorry!

Over the 4 songs, this is probably the freshest that the Top have sounded in years

The riffs (and, as has been said, words) are too self-referential. How many riffs over these 4 songs are almost taken straight from Tush?!

It's quite a bright sound with a lot of space - Very much like eary ZZ Top. Whilst that's not a bad thing per se, I do miss that really dense sound they had on Mescalero.

In places some of the playing feels a bit clumsy...I do wonder how much longer Gibbons can keep going.

Ouch that sounds like a lot of negatives - I am being picky here, remember I DO like the EP!

I find it weird looking at some of the bands I was into when I was younger. I suddenly realise that I am getting older. I viewed the link on here to Chris Robinson talking about vox guitars and thought "shit, he's looking old".(ok, there's a lot of herb, booze etc going onin his life). I saw the black crowes at donnington when they had shake yer money maker out, think they were the second band on. I must of been twenty then.
Point I'm getting to is that Hendrix was quoted to say the Billy Gibbons was one of the greatest blues players he'd heard. So how old is Billy ? (and how much younger are his teeth ?)
