Default how do you practice the drums at home, without getting the noise police come knocking?

i am not a drummer myself (i play guitar very badly).
i would love to get some drums one day and try and learn how to play them.BUT i live real close to neighbours.if i tried playing a drum kit at home,i would get complaints about the noise.
am just wondering how you practice the drums if you have no place you can go to play your drums/if you live right next to neighbours. do you have to resort to electronic drum pads e.t.c
thanks in advance and good drumming to you all
i have a lovely vintage lemon drop guitar

    Erm, you don't!

You find somewhere else to play them - rehearsal room, studio, lockup - or it's electronic drums, I'm afraid.

If you have neighbours, an acoustic drumkit will be too loud, end of.

Even if you have electronic drums the sound of the sticks hitting the pads and your foot stomping on the floor will be enough to annoy the neighbours if you live in a flat.

I have electronic drums at home, I found they were great before i was good enough to join a band but now that im in a band i only ever practice at rehearsal. Electronic drums also get you sued to everything being really close together and ultra bouncy so theres a touch of adjustment when you do move to acoustic drums too.

    These

(The black pads not the kit itself).

I can hear my metronome over it and when assembling the kit in the front room I could hear the TV over them. Okay, so the kit doesn't sound great but you can practice at low volumes.

That said I could probably get away with out using them as my neighbour's kids also plays drums (sans pads) but it's my hearing I'm mainly concerned about.

    quietest is an electronic kit!

We had my son's acoustic kit and used those rubber head things ( not a technical term - silencer pads is what I was struggling for) and they reduced the sound quite a bit. You can buy packs of them, they aren't expensive.

You can also use rods rather than sticks as these are designed to produce less volume.

EDIT:due to computer problem this post took ages to get on - i wasn't being thick, honest.

Just get an acoustic kit and play it.

There is no law that says you can't create some noise.

As long as you are sensible and explain the situation to them, they have no grounds for a complaint.

I do play at home a bit- but I do it during the day when I know my neighbours are at work.
No one has said anything so far- although one neighbour asked if I was going to play a lot- I just said "no, not often" and it was fine.

I mostly play on a practice pad at home though and the bass pedal hits a pillow.
    It is fine.

Looking for an electronic kit too as I want to be able to do more at home.
