    Default Aaaarrrggghhhh

We've got two TV aerials on our roof and one in the loft.

One of the dodgy old rusty ones on the roof has been gradually leaning further and further...till I started to get worried it'd snap off, slide down the roof and land on my car.

So a nice man's been up with his ladder to get the dodgy one off...which is fine as the TV runs from the one in the loft.....or so I thought

    Oops!
So, are you planning to rewire it to the loft aerial?
Let me know how you get on because I'm hoping to install a loft aerial soon.

    That's the plan.

The people that lived here before had TVs in the living room, bedroom and kitchen, we just have one in the living room, so hopefully I can sort it without having to have a new one installed in the roof. I was sure the loft one was wired to the living room!

At our last house we just had one in the loft which worked fine.

If you re-route the coax from the retired aerial into the loft, then you might be able to use an amplifier/splitter from the loft aerial to feed both.

    Hope you like heights!

our freeview in the kitchen is fed from an aerial I put in the loft. Its a pre digital aerial with a booster at the TV end - works a treat

    Hmmm..

I have a pre-digital aerial in the loft, which is crap at picking up digital signals... So, can I replace it with a "digital" aerial in the loft, and a signal booster, or do I have to get a man with a ladder to stick one on the outside of the house?

We'd like to see the odd bit of Olympics, you see... after several years of TV blackout.

Job done. A few hours spent on Sunday morning crawling around in the loft (mostly moving my junk out of the way so I could get to the dusty end of the loft where the TV cables are, then putting it all back afterwards).

Sore knees and a bumped head....but we have TV!

I've read a few things online about the digital signal having trouble passing though wet trees...so I'll be interested if we get reception issues when the roof's wet as well.

It's a bog standard aerial that's been there since before we bought the house so it was a bit of a long shot (and it's not pointing in the same direction as the one on the roof was), so to be honest I'm quite surprised it worked out ok.

If it turns out to be crap when the weathers bad I'll pay a man to do the proper job on the roof...rather that than throw money and time at getting a more expensive aerial in the loft.

There's no such thing as a "digital" aerial. The problems you're experiencing are either to do with the setup of your current aerial (position, direction, connection integrity, length of cable) or a weak signal in your area. Before spending money, check the signal in your immediate area - ask the neighbours, or be cheeky and get a man round for a quote and chat!
