Idiot of the Day Award
One of the many joys of living in a rented house - aside from the crushing feeling of failure at not owning your own property yet, of course - is having to accept the beyond-useless cash-in-hand cowboy that the owner sends round to..well I assume he is sent round to fix things but it does appear that he is sent especially to break things...
Anyway, today he arrived to fix a leaking roof. He has already decided (and agreed with the owner) that the best way to cure the leaking chimney is to take it down completely and tile the area over.
I am no roof expert, but this strikes me as a bit odd...but anyway...
So...Miss nRollDave texts me this morning to tell me the TV signal has gone completely.
He's taken the aerial down with the chimney, hasn't he? Oh what a genius. Anyways, Mother-in-Law-nRollDave approaches the lad with him and explains the situation.
"Oh...we thought you were using the satellite dish, so we thought it would be OK to take the aerial down"
? First off we are NOT using the dish...did you ask? Nope. Secondly any future tennant might not have SKY even if we did...which we don't...and you didn't ask...anyway.
So, Yes we'll sort it, he says....oh but....sh*t, we put the old aerial out for the tatter man to take away...and he's taken it....
Cue a trip for him to the shops to buy a new aerial to fit for us.
Talk about eating into your profits!

Peeps who showed up to repair my leaky roof turned up with no flashing material for sealing holes, or roofing ladder for getting on the roof...
I think it's something to do with roofs that makes builder's IQs drop

It wouldn't have surprised me if the replacement aerial had come out of your pocket. I appreciate there are landlords/estate agents who aren't complete shits, but they seem to be few and far between.

Bidley I half expected him to say we had to get the aerial replaced ourselves.. If I hadn't had words with him yesterday as it is I think he may have fobbed me off, but I think he knows I'm annoyed with him so he's trying to be all helpful...well, as helpful as he can be in his cackhanded way!
Aside from the most minor of DIY tasks, I wouldn't dream of letting myself loose on a house. I wouldn't have a clue what i was doing. ..so to find that there is someone WORSE than me and not only that, he makes his living from it is beyond me. If we move out of this house before that bald chap off the telly comes out from hiding in a secret TV van to expose the chap, I'll eat my hat*.
*not my good one though. I like that one.

Ah, good point. I do sort of interchange that word between meaning "useless" and "lefthanded".Are you saying left handed people don't make good (builders)?
