    Default Olympic Torch

So, next week "the" torch comes through my home city. My wife and kids are saying "it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to see it" and thus re-arranging some other stuff which is quite important.

I don't see what the big deal is. There are loads of once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that occur, why makes people want to see this one so much? I predict a massive anti-climax.

The Olympic torch procession will pass the end of my street. I'm glad they've told me in advance as I can make sure I'm out ..

If you don't see it as a big deal then no one's going to change your mind about that.

It comes through my town this weekend, but we're away so we'll miss it...which is a shame as I did want to take my kids to see it.

why not have a life positively crammed with once in a lifetime experiences, that way if one is a disappointment ... so what? on to the next... I'd go and see it, not so you can bore the shit out of your grandkids with the same story 4 times over when they visit on the 5th Sunday of the Month... but just for something to do with your own family..

given LOCOG's policy of not paying musicians performing at the games, if it passes by here i'll be attempting to put the damn thing out.

I was pretty non-plussed about it but went down when I was in Devon and it was a mile or so away.

I'm still pretty non-plussed. Seeing half an hour's worth of sponsorship cocacola/samsung/lloyds shite up the road before the torch didn't help..

It's not the torch per se but the hullabaloo that follows it - the great and the good are making a whole day event out of it round here and everyone from the local politicians to the the charity chuggers will be out in force. The Olympics used to be about ameteur sport - it's now all about money, ego and politics. A monumental waste of money.

You forgot the bloody great BMW led traffic jam - where are the tree huggers when you need them. There's a torch in there somewhere ..
