It's OK, it's reversed, folks! although it's sometimes used both ways as a Buddhist symbol...

The torch came through Sheffield last night. Was quite a strange experience, the whole thing. I was coming back up Ecclesall Rd (about a mile and a half long rd, full of boutiques, bars, cafes etc, nice area) just before the torch motorcade arrived at the top end, to come down (head on to us in the car, we were coming back away from town) towards the city centre.

It was weird: the traffic was dead, and the whole road was lined with thousands of people, as we drove up it. Felt like royalty, the kids were waving at everyone. As we got to the top end, the whole road was flooded with people and we had to edge through a sea of thousands of people. Managed to get parked, got a spot, saw the whole thing come past. It was quite uplifting to be fair. It was mental here last night, the city centre was rammed, big palaver when the torch got to the city centre, Seb Coe (local lad) did a spot.

Streets packed, shops and cafes open late, bars open, streets thronged, very party like. Thumbs up from me, and I'm not remotely sentimental. I was surprised by how good it all made me feel.

Maybe I'm not such a cynic after all.
