I use one of those WD-40 magic pens to just apply the right amount, and then rub down any residue with kitchen towel and repeat until the stickyness is gone.

Just googled those - WD-40 no mess pen. Didn't know they existed and it would stop me getting an unintentional high every time I use WD-40. Ta.
