    Default Set Up

The thought that occurs to me is that is an awful lot of guitar playing at a party Sounds like an endurance test for the other guests no matter how good you and the others are.

It also assumes that guests will not want to get drunk - get laid or just talk and chill
I suggest you produce a set list as a programme and circulate it among your friends and see what the reaction is

No! You don't know my friends & family - I'd be better off asking Genghis Khan if he wants a fight!

I'd do 30 mins tops. Otherwise all your guests WILL get bored, regardless of how good you are.

Why?? When I go to see a band, I expect more than 30 minutes! In fact I'd be more than a bit p**sed off if they only did 30 minutes.

    I don't think so.

Whenever we gig at private functions we always ask how long they wants us to play for - they usually say "between 2 and 3 hours so folks can have a good boogie".

Same when we gig in pubs and clubs - they want 2x 1hr sets minimum.

I got the impression was that you were organising a party for your family and friends - not just any old private function. It would strike me that as you seem to be hosting the party, that you might want to mingle with your guests. To spend the evening playing would just seem rather rude and self-indulgent to me. If I've misunderstood the scenario, apologies.

And if it's any consolation, I'd be bored by watching 2 3/4hrs of my favourite bands.

Then you, dear boy, need some better favourite bands .

    (I jest, naturally.)

    oops, quoted wrong person!
Yep, I'd go along with that. Under those circumstances I think anything longer that an absolute maximum of 40 minutes is really pushing things.

If it were me I'd play no more than 2 or 3 songs at a party, and only then whilst passing the guitar around other folks, not like a "set". People would just leave or complain. Nothing worse than a guitar hog/bore at a party.

I agree too. Some of the better nights have been with a band that plays for 45 mins tops followed by a dj set
Fender CiJ Jaguar Special, Gibson SG Special, Hohner Headless Active Bass, Mesa Boogie Studio 22+, Korg MS2000B, Focusrite Saffire... and counting...
