    Default Which boost pedal?

After watching a guitarist at a gig recently who turned up and played an amazing set with just a guitar and a Cornford amp with no fx pedals at all it's made me relize that the whole pedal thing and just how many pedals i can squeeze onto my board has become an absession. (I still love pedals though)

With this in mind i thought i'd try and just go back to a guitar and amp set-up with a couple of pedals (tuner, wah, boost). The tone and feel i get from the amps overdrive on it's own is fantastic and the feel is something i could never really get with overdrive/distortsion pedals.

I'd tied boosting the front end of the amp with my overdrive pedal set with low gain and high volume and although it sounded okay it did colour the tone. I then dug out an old Behringer EQ pedal that i got for £12 out of cash convertors a few years ago and wow, i can get a fantastic clean boost driving the tubes into natural overdrive with all the same tone and feel of the amp with no colouration, i can then add the gain stage to get an out and out rock tone.

So basicaly i'm there, the only thing is that my pedal snobbery is making me think 'i should really get a boost pedal instead on this cheap EQ'

Based on youtube demo's amd stuff i've seen on this forum i've narrowed it down to either:

    1. Suhr Koko Boost
    2. TC Electronic Spark Booster
    3. Exotic EP Booster

Do any of you guys have an opinion on any of these? Would one or all of these give me the same results and satisfy my pedal snobbery?

I have just replaced my Behringer EQ pedal that I also used as a boost with an LPB-1.Has massive volume boost available but also adds a nice bit of extra grunt/dirt/drive etc.Worth a punt before spending big on a fancy boost.

I would also add that the Behringer EQ700 pedal does an amazing job as a boost pedal if anyones looking for a super cheap boost option
Playing whilst drunk is only permissable if all other band members are in a similar state.

I've got both the Koko Boost and the new TC Spark Boost.

The Koko boost is brilliant, the mid boost switch really lets you cut through in the mix. One of the best feeling pedals I've owned (build quality wise) but certainly not cheap. I've got mine in front of my amp for a gain boost (and I use the mid boost for solos).

Haven't had the Spark boost for long, but I bought it as I wanted a boost with simple EQ to use with my strat. It can bring that guitars volume up to match my Gibson, and on the fat setting it really does fatten it up.

Not sure which i'd recommend the most between the two though as I need to get user to the Spark boost a bit more.

i dont have any experience with the pedals your considering.
i use a keeley katana as a boost in the very way youre wanting to do.
it doesnt colour the sound very much (if at all) but can give a cookin valve amp a huge boost for even more of the sound youre happy with if that makes sense?

    maybe worth a try?

I'd agree 100%, it's a great EQ pedal and works perfectly as a boost. I might just have to get over my pedal snobbery.......

Thanks, both seem like great pedals, i would like the Koko boost purely as i have a Riot and could use it with this to. I'm off loading a couple of pedals to i'll see how my GAS fund is looking in a week or so.
