    Default Chameleon Guitars

Anyone got a guitar that has completely changed colour from when it was made?.
I have, here is what it looked like when it was brand new in 2004:

and here is what it looks like today:

Hard to believe its the same guitar (which it definately is). Its been in its case for most of its life and hasnt a mark on it.
Its one of the best made and best sounding guitars Ive ever had, and Ive had a few over the last 40 years I can tell you

    Show us what you've got

Wow, usually blue goes to green! Pretty cool though as long as you're happy with the 'new' colour I guess?!

I had a Squier tele that had faded in the sunlight over about 2 years, the front was surf green and the rest had stayed sonic blue... looked a little strange so I evened it out by fading the rest too!

    Blue to brown!

    How does that work?

Especially as it has been kept in a case.
    Cheers,

What is the difference under the same light?

Indoor to outdoor can show up as a different colour, esp in a photo.
Not disputing what you are saying at all but I'd like to see a recent indoor shot as well.

It actually looks more of a grey/brown with a slight touch of green in certain lights, but it really is chalk and cheese to the original colour.
Ive spoken to Jack Briggs about it and though he has seen some of the Blue stains he's used in the past change their hue over the years, he was surprised at the way this one has gone.
I think its got a lot to do with the (thin) Nitro finish and its reaction to the stain used. Maybe if it had been left out of the case and in some daylight it would have turned out to be a different colour altoghether.
regardless of its 'current' colour its a stunning one piece Honduran mahogany body with Brazilian Cocobola fretboard and paua inlays.

My dad has a 1990 Fender Jazz Bass... I think it's a Japanese 1962 reissue.

Apparently it was Sonic Blue when he bought it, but it's now yellowed so much it looks like Surf Green.

I don't have any old pics, but here's what it looks like now:

My name is Connor and I have a GAS problem.

I also have some videos of myself playing guitar. Here they are.

    I have an RG270.

It changed completely from black to white.

I did help it a bit, though.

I saw a lad with a Strat in a similar way in guitarist mag years ago?

I had a Yamaha SG 700 years ago they have a thing where the finish layers seperate and go cloudy but thats just annoying.
