    Default WTB: 1U power amp

Looking at running my bass rig with a floor-based preamp into a PA power amp, and after something that'll fit on top of my cab in its flightcase (hence 1U) - don't want to spend loads but looking for something that'll put out 500W+ bridged into 8 ohms, guessing Peavey DPC750, W-Audio 600 or similar, hit me with what you got!

    Check out the Matrix GT800FX.
I use one with an Axe FX for guitar and bass- it kills.

The W-Audio Horizon 600 is a great little amp. I believe I got mine for about £120 from these guys:

I can't guarantee you'll get it for that price - I was actually after the 300, but they didn't have any in stock. Bizarrely, they called me back and offered me the 600 for the same money.

    Bit of thread resurrection!

I've just had my JMP-1 rig back (the seller returned it because the Channel B volume pot on the power amp was a bit scratchy!) - I've just plugged it and had a quick balst and it sounds massive, so I'm tempted to hold onto it... only problem is the power amp is a Marshall 9000 that weighs an absolute ton so lugging it about is hard work.

Just wondering how close these 1U power amps get to a valve power amp sound - if it's anywhere close I'll be picking one up. Are there any 1U or 2U power amps out there specifically designed for Guitar use? I've seen the Marshall 8008 but I don't think they'll be loud enough.

The Rocktron Velocity 300 might be worth looking into - it has a couple of controls that aim to give it a valve-like character.
Regarding the 8008, it's fairly light and good for what it is, but like you say, it's not really that loud.
I use a Mesa 2:90 and wanted something lighter because, combined with the Triaxis and FX in a rack, it's close to 30kgs. But like most things, the weightier it is - the better it sounds ...

I think the best suggestion was from octatonic, the Matrix GT800FX. I've been looking into these for a while now and will get one at some point to use with my Kemper.

Absolutely none available second hand (that may tell us something).
