Default Reaper not as stable as it used to be?

Is anyone else finding that over the past year or so, that Reaper is beginning to crash quite alot? I'm getting this so much these days that I'm tempted to look at another DAW. It seems to be when playing around with VST's and VSTI's. Now every single one I use is a freebie one, so no doubt there will be bugs in these anyway, but I never used to get the crashes, and im more or less using the same set up! The only difference from 2 years ago on my system is Reaper being updated.

It might just be me, but is anyone else finding this?

I don't think I've ever had Reaper crash.

I did have some Rapport software from Nat West that totally broke it, but other than that it's been fine.

Computers get stuffed, slow and crappy. Have you run DPClat the latency checker? Run Ccleaner several times to root out Registry crap. Run diskcheck from boot up. Run "PC Scan and Repair" (don't have to buy it!) that will tell you if you have any serious slowerdowners.
Update all hardware drivers. Delete Reaper with Revouninstaller on its advanced setting and re install. Run MSCONFIG and make sure you are not starting stuff you don't need. Have you got any wireless modems running?

Push comes to, do a Recovery back to factory settings and start afresh. Only 08:45 now. With luck you will be done by Sunday night!

Dave (I am a PC numpty but all the above is, AFAIK harmeless and reversable)

'Kin ell Dave..... have you been on the Joe 90 machine again ?.... I warned you about that last time, when decided you wanted to fly the Space Shuttle after that barbecue.

    (all good advice too !)

Thanks folks. I system restore back to factory settings pretty often actually, but that doesnt seem to help! Well atleast I know its not just an issue with reaper, more a problem at my end.

Interestingly I did find a link somewhere that said to 'bypass audio while opening plug-in config window'. I've clicked this option, and after playing about with loads of VSTi's for 5 minute, it doesnt seem to crash. But I'l only really notice an improvement next time I'm doing something bigger! I'l let you all know the results!

Seems to still work pretty well on my internet machine for pro playback purposes. Did you update any synths or drivers recently ?

I've ran massive sessions in Reaper and never had a problem.

There's a fair chance a dodgy VST has crept in, or you've got a conflicting driver (or software).

Have you updated Reaper to the latest version?

Simple answer: Don't use reaper. why use it when you can get much. much better software for exactly the same price. free

(of course, just my personal opinion)
