    Reasons for not liking Reaper?
And which software would you recommend?

Well I've been mucking about with it a little, and it still crashes even after that option change i mentioned in the previous page. I'm just going to have to admit defeat on this one, and assume its one or a combination of the free VST's im using (even although they've all worked in the past). Might give pro tools LE a go cos I got that free with my soundcard, but I'm pretty sure that will be pantaloons!

I bought an m-audio card just to try pro tools le. Biggest dissapointment of my life. The lack of a proper drum style midi editor is a complete deal breaker for me. I have no idea why pro tools is so dominant professionally, it seemed pretty pans to me.

If I was to switch from reaper I'd likely go back to cubase or perhaps get into ableton.

Weed those VST's. A lot of the home grown versions cause massive crashes. Zebra CM used to crash cubase almost every time. I now use Logic, which crashes much more elegantly, and takes the midi drivers with it.
