    Hi All,
anyone got any advice to learning the blues i have the basics but i want to play the blues a lot better, i have lots of books (covering all levels) and a dvd that covers the basics. I just struggle to find the books accessible anyone give me any advice. I spend more time looking at guitars than playing them something I want to change

The 'trick' with blues playing is to really develop a great sense of phrasing. A player of any level would quickly be able to work out the notes used by Peter Green for the intro of 'Need Your Love So Bad'. Few would phrase it as beautifully (Gary Moore demonstrated this on his Blues for Greeny version).

I recommend you learn major and minor scales throughly, in all positions and then spend time trying to copy the greats. It should (hopefully!) seep in!

Firstly I'd recommend learning the minor pentatonic scale in all positions. Don't worry about any other scales other than the minor pentatonic in every position.
The conductor said I could get my bookbag and run around the hallway with it.

Learn the blues scale (minor pentatonic + the flat 5)

Practice your string bending and vibrato.

Get some backing tracks of twelve bar blues

Explore how all the different notes sound over the chords and how that makes you feel.

I disagree - memorising every shape is not a great use of time. In fact, I advise the opposite - get to know position 1 so well that you sing licks as you play. After that, allow yourself an extra few notes. I think that gaining a feel for what you play is far more important than memorising pentatonic boxes - you'll find you don't end up using all of them anyway (I certainly don't).

Listen to all the great blues players... Try a get into the feel of what they do even off you don't get the correct notes at the start...learn the blues scale and the maj pentatonic and try and create music with them straight away but above all Listen to good blues players then you know how it should sound
