Am I right in thinking you've got 6 double courses tuned in 4ths like a guitar but the 3rd is between the 4th and 3rd courses (whereas a guitar has it between the 3rd and 2nd strings)?

I always used to fancy a lute, but the nearest I got was an Oud I bought from some bloke in a cafe in Morocco (for £35 and a t-shirt). Coz they're fretless I didn't stand a chance!
