    Default Pay for Small Pubs

    Hi all,

I used to play in a guitar/bass vocal duo about ten years ago in Spain, we played small venues that held about 30 to 80 people and we were paid about £30 each.

The bass player and I are now thinking about doing the same thing back home in the UK (North Wales) and again we only want to play small pubs, the thing is we have no idea how much to charge.

We have good equipment and we play to a professional standard, (sounds like I’m blowing my own horn but I just want to clarify that although we only want to play small venues it’s not because we are crap lol.)

If anyone is doing a similar thing and can tell me how much we can expect to earn it would be much appreciated.

I'd add an extra £50 for security playing round Yeovil!

It's all about how may extra punters the pub can attract when you play, the more people that come to see you the more you can charge. I know duo's down here (Portsmouth) that can only get £150 ish but I also know duo's that can get £350 for an acoustic gig. Same with bands, it's economics of business not a set union rate.

We want to play in a pub at the bottom of our road it’s tiny and they don’t have any live music there anymore (probably due to money issues.) We aren’t gonna drag anyone extra in only a few friends so I think if we went in and said we want £150 we ain’t gonna be gigging there.

We really wanna play there though so we are gonna ask for £50 (for the Duo) and hopefully get more if we can build it up into a popular live music night. As I say no ones gigging there at the moment so weren’t not under cutting anyone.

Anyway thanks for the info guys.

The Douglas Arms by any chance?

The landlord confused the hell out of me with that old money business, I had no idea how much he wanted off me!

I only live about 15mins from the place.
