I bought an Evolution Ekeys49 for son some years ago for £79.99 (from PCWorld of all places!) and it has served him well.

It is in fact a MIDI "controller" but there are no knobs, switches etc, the keys do double duty and I can't be A'ed with it (keep promising self a Berry BCF 2000!) .

Whatever you get try to have one with a MIDI out on it. The Evo has one and so it is usb'ed to one PC and powered from it but the MIDI DIN feeds another Win7/64 PC. Two birds, one stone as'twere.

I think the Evolution is no longer made as such but M-Audio do a 49keyer that is remarkably similar, even the drivers work!

    Dave.
