Default Price drop. Wharfedale 50 watt all valve head and matching 2x12 cab

pictures over on the gumtree ad

    http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/wh...4?mobile=false

    £300 o.n.o grab a bargain
Trades/ part exchanges with cash either way excepted (particulary offset guitars: jags etc, pa's, small valve amps) also welcome
What you got? it's a great giging rig for peanuts and am willing to drive an hour or so to meet (based in central Norwich)

Here's a wharfedale 50 watt all valve head and matching 2x12 cab, I've owned it about two years but the head has probably had no more than ten hours use max (probably 2 practices and a gig) so loads of tube life, my girlfriend bought me my orange not long after so I started using that more and its just sat as a reserve. The head is in as new condition I had a custom cover made by http://www.roqsolid.co.uk/wp/ and its sat in that, it still sounds great not a single scratchy pot or mark. I would love to keep it I just don’t have the space and need the cash and have far too many amps so one needs to go

These amps were short lived but designed by Steve Grindrod the chief designer at marshall ( I think he was part of the jcm 800 design team, might be wrong) and then later vox (which wharfedale actually owns now). The amp is made to extremely high standard the output transformers were even specifically made for it as this steve guy right thought to many amp makers skimping on the transforms

"transformers are designed and built by ourselves, the output transformers are built on Z-11 laminations. Z-11 is one of the best High Grade lamination materials, and is used for superior sound quality, being on par to custom made "boutique" transformers"

The amp is fully footswichable (footswitch included) including a unique feature of being able to combine channel one and two

"Both channels can go from clean through to scream, each with their own distinctive voicing. Channel A has the EQ before the gain stages for west-coast style blues and fusion styles. Channel B has the EQ post the gain stages for classic british rock and metal styles."
Its a proper swiss army amp loads of tones hiding inside of it.
It even has onboard digital reverb that sounds pretty good and does a good spring emulation which is compareable to some of my high end reverb pedals (and im a bit of a reverb junky) plenty of surf sprit is in there

The Cab is made to an equally high standard and is rated 140w at 16ohm there are a few very minor scuff’s to the tolex but no rips or tears. I will consider offers on splitting the two for sale, though it would be nice to keep them a pair as they sound great together.

Anyway great rig at a cheap price, ijust want a quick and easy sale and cant be bothered with ebay

I've got the combo version of that rig - the one with the twin Vox speakers. It's my main gigging amp.

Two very distinctive channels, that can be blended for a very full sound.

They are now re-badged as Albion Amps and sell for around £900 for my combo. I don't think there is a UK distributorship, yet.

People sneer at them because they are "made" in China, but Steve Grindrod's company owns the factory, and he actually lives over there, and has complete control and hands-on with all aspects of the production and marketing, so the fact is that they are made by Grindrod, in China.

For the money, they are fantastic amps, being effectively two amps in one, with the ability to blend a mixture of both.

A couple of years ago, when they decided to re-brand these Wharfedale TCT amps as Albion amps, the UK distributors off-loaded their entire stock to PMT and a few other dealers. They were knocking them out for peanuts in comparison to the rrp just to clear the stock.

I bought one of the 35 watt combos and it was great. Well made, good sound and ridiculously cheap for an amp of that quality. Before the sale ended I got two of the 2x12 cabs and a 50 watt head as well. I think I paid less than £600 for the lot. The cabs have been gigged constantly, either with the head or with one of my rack rigs and have sounded great. Better tone and much better made than the Marshall 1922's they replaced.

The combo's done jam sessions, deps and small gigs (mind you it's well loud and more than capable of doing small halls without micing it up) and it's great too. I use it with a Digitech GSP1101 via 4 cable and it sounds brilliant. It takes pedals really well too, as does the head.

Don't make the mistake of thinking these are cheaply made, Chinese amps - they're very well made amps from a factory in China overseen by one of the best amp designers this country's ever produced. This rig's a serious bargain for £300.00!!

I bought the very last TCT50C in the UK, about this time last year. It cost me £299 delivered! Absolute silly money for the quality of the amp.

£300 for the head and cab is an absolute steal. This amp blows the socks of a Laney or a Peavey, and is easily on a parr with the Vox valve amps.

Before I bought this, I used to gig with an Orange Dual Terror through a Marshall 1936v cab, but the Wharfedale is far more versatile, and with greater headroom on the cleans.

Cheers for the positive comments guys, these wharfedales really are, great well made amps and like you describe they cover a huge tonal spectrum! The cab is great as well, really well built and I preferred it to my orange one for awhile just makes sense to shift it with the amp

It's a shame they didn't take off I guess people were just put off by the wharfedale name (even though it obviously has great heritage in the audio world) it would of been intresting to have seen how they sold if they were badged vox instead, which they kind of were at the time (same parent company and everything)

Anyway I don't really want to see this go but I really have too many amps and it's the old space conundrum and not really using it that's resulted in this one being put up. Plus I'm digging the sound of smaller valve amps being 'pushed' these days

Hence I'm open to trades etc as well, with money ethier way depending on what you have got to offer,(especially intrested in offset guitars, basses, small valve amps, pedals etc) can always slip that past my girl friend as "at least I shifted an amp" : ) and I would only use cash to buy those sort of things anyway!

All said it is a bargin at £300, just priced to sell and you won't be disappointed
I'm happy to deliver/meet a reasonable distance from Norwich

I have got a Wharfdale TCT 100H and a wharfdale 2x12 cab. They do sound awesome and 300 quid is a steal. The best bit is the power reduction switch to 33%, I do biggish clubs with this and only need to go up to 100 watts outdoors but at 33% I get a real creamy tone.

The fact that each channel has vol, gain and drive as well as a standard EQ means you can dial in virtually anything that you want short off out and out metal (but you can kick it over the edge with a decent distortion)

    Bump

plus generic youtube vid that shows the re-badged albion version (still the same amp with the same spec’s) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWknSjdTlB0 The vid doesn’t really do the amp justice and its not really my style of playing but I guess it shows some of the tones in there, l used it for the whole epic shoegaze thing with a ton of pedals (which it took really well) so i guess this shows how versatile this amp in terms of the tonal range it covers

Still open to trades and offers

    Bump
Can't belive this hasn't gone for this price
I often drive to Essex and am going to Cambridge in a few weeks

Plus I found a uk store that sells the rebadged Albion version (for anyone that doubts the quality, though that store is over priced on the whole) £799 for the head http://www.theacademyofsound.co.uk/A...itar_Amplifier

    And £329 for the 2x12 http://www.theacademyofsound.co.uk/A...ension_Cabinet

Both the same just different colour scheme (admittedly the red doesn't look great in pictures but it's better in real life and it's actually capped maple)
