I probably did but it wouldn't look good on the record if there was a suggestion that I'd used bribery to induce a good report

    Bugger

Thats probably £10 worth of steel and £10 consumables, all the rest is labour. I don't know a good local man who does deals on car welding unfortunately. I have a towing bar if you need to move it before retesting.

Welding is just like soldering but bigger, do it yourself

They've delivered it back to my place. Failures listed: Nearside & Offside rear (sill) seatbelt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded. Advisories: tyre wear, all metal brake pipes corroded close to limit, front exhaust mounting corroded close to limit

If I had savings or a properly paid job I'd probably scrap it. I could just afford to fix the failures ... would the seat belt mountings still be an issue if I removed the back seat (which I don't use anyway) ?

Edit: Apparently the rusted seat belt mounts are within legally prescribed distance of the suspension mounts so it would still fail even if I removed the seat.

So: spend the money on welding (cleaning out the bank account in the process) and keep it on the road for a bit longer (the engine has been quite reliable and I have no reason to think it is suddenly going to blow up) ..... OR ..... spend the same money on somneone else's heap of junk that they're getting rid of for a good reason? Loans are out of the question. So is selling my bum, and don't even think about mentioning my guitars.

Ok yes bike shop man point taken, you are the best and far stronger than anyone else.

Two days later I popped in to his shop to buy an innertube and he didn't even acknowledge me when I said hello.
