    Thanks chaps

    @jonnyburgo

    It's bad enough having to contend with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (similar to MS symptom wise but thankfully not as aggressive in it's progression) without having epilepsy as well. Together they make one hell of a combination as with HSP you have to be extra careful with virtually everything you do (I can trip over a blade of grass for example) but being wary of even leaving the house for fear of coming round in the back of another ambulance after a fit puts a real damper on everyday life.

    I still go out, I live alone and even tho' I do the majority of my shopping online, I still have to get some things locally when I run short, plus there's the need to get outside and see/speak to people. I can't remember the last time I was out at night, it must be 10+ years ago now, I'm too stiff and tired with the HSP to make going for a drink or meal enjoyable, that and the risk of another seizure always being at the back of my mind means I just couldn't relax enough to enjoy myself as things stand now.

    I'll be on 1000mg of Keppra a day for the epilepsy till I next see my neuro next July (he's treating me for both disorders) unless things change for the worse and I need a earlier appt, when he'll probably just increase the dose.

    Good vibes also from me, Ian. And so glad to see something almost positive occurring for you with the abscess beginning to heal.

    Thanks Neil

    This is a tad gross, but I'm kinda looking forward to the day I wake up and find the dressing has stuck to the skin overnight as this will mean it's dried on as there's no more gunk to come out. I don't think that day is far away as there's been as much blood as gunk over the past couple of mornings, tho' that said, it's still large-ish size suggests otherwise.

    A quick update on the state of my abscess.

    It's now a lot smaller and a good deal less painful, but for all that is presently even more unsightly than when at it's biggest and angriest looking. This is in no small part down to 2 of 3 large vent holes merging into 1, now looking for all the world like a 1 inch long, wide open gash out of which more blood is coming than I'm comfortable with.

    The battle is being won, but it's been a long process and will need yet more sterile dressings to be bought tomorrow morning if I'm to avoid permanently staining/ruining my clothes and bedding.

    I'm pleased to be able to report a major step forward.

    As it wasn't as painful, while having a shower last night I decided to give the abscess a good squeeze and what a result. As fascinating as I found what happened next, it also made me heave mightily as the *gunk* came out in hard lumps resembling sweetcorn in size, colour and feel, tho' I somehow doubt they'd taste alike. It was disgusting watching said lumps go down the plughole, but much better there than in me.

    There's pretty much only the original cyst left now, so hopefully it won't be long before I can have this removed to stop it all happening again.

    Not quite the way I'd describe it, but I must admit there was a certain amount of satisfaction involved.
