Have to agree with Myranda, rotator cuff injuries suck. Didn't do mine too badly but sleeping was a huge issue - one wrong move and I would be sitting bolt upright in bed wondering who had put the red hot poker through my shoulder!

BTW for doing the muscle rub, invest in a box of latex (or nitrile) gloves and use them for rubbing it in. Saves a lot of pain especially if you go to the loo and still have some of the rub on your hands - imagine a blow torch on the 'nads.
More than likely the reason, tho' it still strikes me as odd only the one shoulder was involved, and not even on my right/favoured arm which I would have expected to be the shoulder affected.

I've only slipped up once regarding washing the muscle rub off my hands.........when I later rubbed my eye. There wasn't much came in contact with my eye and I quickly learned to make sure my hands were thoroughly washed after applying the rub.

Ditto on the sleeping, I'm a very, very light sleeper to start with so all this has been horrendous. I'm really looking forward to the day I catch up on all this interrupted sleep by oversleeping..............but not tonight so I miss tomorrows appt at the fracture clinic.

Thanks Mike, I'm getting there slowly, today has been the best day yet regarding pain which is something to be grateful for.

    Thank you

Pain wise, yesterday was the best yet, so much so I twice actually dropped off to sleep for over an hour, once mid afternoon then early evening. I was still relatively pain free when I went to bed at 11.30, worried that I may oversleep as I'd be out early today for my fracture clinic appt.

Needless to say I'd no need to have worried, I was still half awake at 1pm but must have dozed off, only to waken in absolute f#cking agony 35 minutes later. God knows what had happened/I'd done to cause it, but while I jokingly wished amputation was a option at the fracture clinic last Friday, had it been offered last night I would have bitten their hands off and not been that insistent on anaesthetic being needed.

Again, it was purely muscular pain, it felt like I'd got a lifetimes cramp all at once in one arm, every muscle felt like it was knotted as tight as it could go and by 2am I was sat on the edge of the bed all but in tears. More out of desperation than anything, I got up and rooted out my microwave hot water bottle and put it in to heat up. As luck has it it's long and thin, pretty much the length of my arm, and once heated off back to bed I trotted. I managed to ease my arm out straight by my side and placed said water bottle along it, and while not instant relief it was a great help, enough that I was able to get my arm back in the sling later and get another hours sleep before the pain woke me again.

Worryingly as I can't see this being a good sign, I've been getting regular twinges from the shoulder itself since I got up today.

It gets worse, not the news I wanted to hear from today's appt at the fracture clinic

A week ago I had a humble fractured shoulder, but after fresh x-rays this morning it's now been *upgraded* to a badly broken one. I suppose it's possible, maybe even likely, a layman will misinterpret a x-ray, but it seemed if mine was increased to actual scale there wouldn't just be a gap between the ball and socket, it'd be inches

The doc I saw is the units shoulder specialist and wants a CT scan done before taking things further/giving advice, but he did say I'd most likely be looking at 3 options

1/ leave the shoulder alone, it will heal but be very stiff and of very limited use

2/ go in and try to repair the damage

3/ a total shoulder replacement (I keep thinking he said transplant, but that surely can't be right, can it?)

Right now option 1 is favourite and will remain so unless he can offer some pretty cast iron guarantees on the effectiveness of the other 2 options. My guitar playing days will be severely curtailed for some time at best, at worst they may well be over.

On top of all this I've got the appt with my neuro next Thursday to see what he makes of my having the fit that caused the above. He'll have the results of the CT scan of my head/brain that will hopefully help (by showing nothing amiss) and by then I should have got the written statement from the girl who saw most of the fit, which should give him some clues as to what exactly happened.

I've also got my appts to have a 24 hour heart monitor fitted/removed the following morning on Thursday and Friday the week after.

It's a damn good job there is such a thing as the NHS, but it's beginning to seem like a second home atm.

    Hmm... shoulder replacement you say?

A friend was told he'll have to give up martial arts after some shoulder injury because they reckon arthritis will set in and get continually worse, a quick googling shows SR might (after recovery) give him the hobby he loves back... hmm.

Incidently before you say it, his wife or sister or some other close relative is a physio so he's been doing that to no avail... it's the joint/tendons/muscles that are screwed

I forget how he worded it exactly, but I'm pretty sure he said full shoulder replacement (or words to that effect) There was probably little point him going into too much detail till the results of the CT scan are back as this will give him the detailed info on my injury he needs to advise me on the best way forward.
