    Default Sibelius software

Hello, is anyone familiar with Sibelius software? I've used at uni but am looking at buying my own. Is there much between the old versions: 4,5,6 and the newest version 7? I'm not really a techy, but enjoy composing. Does anyone have a version they're willing to sell complete with license etc?

Version 7 won't read files made by older editions of Sibelius, eg the RISCOS-hosted one, and probably some of the earlier Windows-hosted versions. Bothers me but maybe it won't bother you. Wonderful program though, shame they've made it so hungry for compute power.

There does seem to be some concern amongst Sibelius users about the future of the software. May be worth holding off on a purchase until it resolves itself (there's a 'Save Sibelius' group on Facebook).

Eh ? They've ended support for XP, and PowerPC Macs, but I doubt Avid would pull the plug on a market leader. There may be reduced investment and fewer new feature releases, but you can do orchestral scores in it already - what else is needed ?

Go for it, buy now (if you have a Mac or PC that's at least 3-4 years old).

    Rachel.

You might like to investigate the various versions of Finale Music.

Thanks for the replies. I will try the free software. I was avoiding finale just because I know sibelius, but as long as it's largely similar, I could get the hang of it.... it will be mostly songwriting or exercises for pupils I'm after..not major complex.

I believe Finale do a very generous student package?
And I think Son said sending stuff out to others was easier than Sibelius?

Dunno, I can only read circuit diagrams.
