IF there was any evidence that Msoft had been in serious talks with the top end of the sound recording industry or if we were seeing prominent adverts from AI mnfctrs proclaiming
"Windows Eight Ready. All new super fast drivers available" We might be moved but we do not. FFS many of them have not, and never will have proper drivers for W7!
Another point about W8 that has been rather lost. Power saving methods have figured strongly in the software I understand? Not suprising as it seems aimed at portable devices. But the battery economy programs in laptops have made modern ones all but useless for intense music work and the throttling schemes cannot be "got at" to turn them off.
I suspect W8 will be even worse in this regard.....So yes, tablets, toys and phones.

I wouldn't bother. The performance isn't much different, the new Start screen is horrible, and the Metro apps are a dead end. Which leaves you with....A nice new Task Manager, faster boot times, and a ribbon menu in Explorer. Most of that can be done on 7 with third-party stuff.
Honestly, I think I'll be sticking with 7 for the foreseeable future.

I would say that about XP but that you could not buy a new PC with other than W7 on it. Then you have *&^%**s like Steinberg that make it hard to use older software with new software versions.
But there IS some good stuff inW7. I pratt about a bit and it seems very rugged and forgiving plus it self diagnoses and fixes things quite often.

It's possibly unwise to take the results of one benchmark as indicative of an issue with Win8 when the problem may lie elsewhere (drivers and whatnot).
That said: anyone who uses their computer for a paying gig (in the sense of having customers and deadlines, etc) should treat any and all updates and upgrades with extreme prejudice. If it's working as it should then leave it alone. Let some other guy be the unpaid beta tester!
OS changes are a huge ballache anyway, especially concerning re-registration of software. There's also the consideration of whether your software suppliers are on the ball regarding testing and debugging with a new OS. That also goes for dongles, e-licencers, hardware drivers, Uncle Tom Cobley and all...
Give it a few months, maybe even a year. I know that we're all intoxicated by shiny new stuff but while a new OS may bring a few improvements, it won't make your CPU run any faster and it certainly won't make your bits sound more analogue. Let's face it, the hardware most of us have now wasn't even designed with Win8 in mind. [/Luddite mode]
Do you want to do anything with the computer, as in actually use it, or spend ages playing with the operating system ?
I remember the days when the operating systems were merely the platform that you ran all the good stuff on top of. Microsoft have managed, over the years, to market their operating systems as some kind of all-encompassing end solution, when the bottom line is that it's not the operating system you use day to day, it's the applications you run on top that count.
Yes, things have become prettier since the days of DOS and Windows now comes bundled with a load of fancy wizards and mini-applications of its own, but who the hell uses a PC with nothing other than Windows on it ? You wouldn't get much done.
People have become sucked in by Microsoft's marketing and obsess too much on whether they've got the latest OS, when the focus should be on the applications and what you are actually doing with the computer.
