For sure, just being flippant, I don't want to diminish how horrific the IRA were.

From what I experienced last weekend Freemasons are at best are creepy morris dancers, at worse devil worshippers!

Could be because the Old Bill used to be famous for being infiltrated by Masons? Allegedly, back in the 70's, you couldn't get promoted unless you had the right handshake.

A mate used to play Masonic dances - the band had to leave the premises while the Masonic part of the bash went on, and I believe they were required to play a special piece of music for the ritual "Salute to the Ladies".

Yep, played a few of those in my time. Both of those things are standard. Mind you, they paid well, fed and watered us and knew how to emjoy themselves, so all good in my book!

We played a wedding at a freemason hall a while back.

I don't agree with the whole ethos of it as I understand it, but I dare say I may not understand it the way it is meant.
I did think the paraphenalia they had for sale was a little bit sad - golden trowels and all that.

This sounds like very much like conversation I have with people about spending £200 on a on a small metal box, which it supposed to make my guitar sound better. They tell me it's sad, and that's an opinion. I think they're ignorant, and that's a fact!

Of course if it was a golden plectrum, or a signature guitar or amp...

If the gig was paid, what's the problem?

It wasn't your corpse in the hall after the gig - and if you don't want their money, then next time refuse the gig.
    Simples!

We were just booked to play a wedding.
Believe me, If we had been known it was in that venue we would have said no!
Never again. Still makes me shudder....

Quite right too. I watched this documentary about Freemasonry and police corruption in the '80s. I will never forget what I learnt in that program shocked me and has taught me all I need to know.

The worst bit was that a member of the investigating team was in masonry too, which shocked the lead investigator, DCI Eugene Hunt.
