Default Light, compact 2x12 cabs - any tips?

    Any recommendations?

I came across these, which have being small and light as a USP:

...but 500 quid is a bit steep and 25kg isn't all that light - tbh it's not all that small either.

There's the Zilla small vintage 2x12 which would cost around 350 with v30s and is very compact and quite light...probably my current favourite.

Nothing with V30s in it is ever going to be LIGHT!

Is there not a 2by Harley you can get then swop out the drivers for Neo Centuries?

I know the Neos are not everyone's cup of char, main criticism seems to be overbright but that's what tone controls are for!

If you want to hear some find a shop with a Bstar Series One 45 combo. If you ask nicely the guy might let you plug in your amp! (go with the necessary jack lead and coupler.)

Well I can recommend my HB 2x12 £100 , sell the V30's separately , for which you'll get close to £100 ,so effectively a free cab to fit Neo's into.

I'm always on the look out for lighter gear, and TBH I can't understand how they can claim these are light. They're 3kg heavier than my Cornfed 2x12 which is 22kg, although not as heavy as my earlier Engl 2x12 at 35kg. Bloody near killed me, that one.

    Purple Chili. Love the name

If you don't mind cardboard* cabs, the Marshall 1922 and the (discontinued, but not that rare) JTM60 cab are quite light, and not too big. You'd probably want to change the speakers though, the 1922 comes with G12T-75s and the JTM60 with the old 'Heritage' model, which is nothing to do with the Heritage series. Neither are very good, although they're not too heavy, both are M-magnet types. You are probably paying to much for the name on the front though.

(*MDF - it's actually denser than ply, but both these cabs use pretty thin stuff and they don't end up too heavy.)

Well my current cab is a Marshall 1936 wich seems to be made out of chipboard...so MDF would be a step up. Also not that bothered about G12T-75s...I had them in the 1936 originally and tbh I didn't notice a lot of difference when I swapped to V30s. In fact I think I may have preferred the G12T-75s. But I appreciate I'm in the minority there.

Looking at the prices though, I can get a loaded Zilla small vintage cab for about the same...I might give Zilla cabs a call and see what they recommend...

Neo's are not too bad. Can be a little spikey sounding in the highs, but it can be tamed with some EQ to an extent. Personally, I'd just lump it and get some V30's or K100's in a 2x12 and put wheels on the damn thing.

No, it will be MDF - unless it's an old JCM800 one, in which case it's ply with a chipboard back panel.

I'd definitely look for a used 1922 then - they're not that rare.

I actually think the cardboard construction is less of a problem with the small cab, too.

I knew someone who had a purple chilli cab and it was definitely light. However, unless you have the neodymium speakers it rather defeats the object. Neodymium has had a big price increase in the last year or so unfortunately ( it also sounds like a made up element from Avatar).

I have a JTM60 2x12 cab as my emergency spare, I can confirm their lightness, and bland tone. But for £90 t'were a bargain - and as rightly said ^^^^^^ can be used as a base for re-speakering.

The grey covering / tweed grille cloth looks dead cool too.
