I`ve got an old trace elliot combo here, about 130-150w been loud enough for all the gigs I`ve needed it for, thats for sale £165, not far from you. Plus the old Peavey TNT 160 combos can be picked up £150 and below, blow most amps away that are double the wattage.
Power wise you need to be able to hear yourself above drummer, but as a rule of thumb I allways say a minium of 3 times the wattage of the guitarists amp.

Thanks so much for your input Fret' and Kone'. Really appreciated!!

OK, so I've been offered this CV Jazz from somebody for £170 plus delivery.

He's sprayed the headstock to match the body and put a Fender decal on, changed the tuners for Schallers and put some 'Tesla' p'ups in. I know nothing about Tesla's. Any good?

I'll probably stick a maple board with block inlays on it, cos I love maple and it looks very nice with those inlays!

Big question then...Is it worth it?

I still like the VM Jaguar in cos it looks nice, though. Hmmmm!

Reckon I'll be going for the Hartke LH500 set up too.

    CVs are great basses.

I wouldn't get an Ashdown though. I don't like them at all.

A Hartke would be a much better bet.

EDIT: Should also mention that your plan to take up bass is a good one. You will never be without a gig if you know your way around a bass.

Yeah, cheers Monq' it never occurred to me until recently that the obvious solution to the total lack of bass players round here was to start playing bass myself!

It was staring me in the face!

Like everywhere else, there are loads of guitarists available, so problem solved.

Anything but heavy rock/metal. Punk stuff and general covers mostly, but I'm in the process of starting a punk covers band!

Just seen a 300 watt Warwick 8X10 cab for sale at £100!! Are Warwick any good?

It would go with the Hartke LH500!

Great kit. If you can transport it!
