"Flashy" is a better word, yes, in my opinion.

"Chappers" is actually Ricky Gervais, surely...?

You may have missed it, but there was one video where Lee explained that he'd never really considered himself much of a guitarist and when he started doing the videos with Rob it gave him a bit of a kick up the backside to start learning to play properly - that was about a year or so ago.

So, given that he's a casual guitarist who only started to make an effort to learn around a year ago, I think he's doing OK

The problem I have is that "Chappers" goes straight for the metal tones and chops whenever he is demonstrating something. I watched the GT-100 review they did and they simply rattled through some of the presets with the Boss rep before Chappers came in and made up his own metal-based patch, making "fast noise".

I would like them to demonstrate the clean and milder overdrive side of gear because that will influence my buying choices, but they never do. At best you get one or two seconds of a cleaner tone before he moves on to his own pet metal zone.

I get the impression that the video's are really aimed at 14 year olds with an Alter Bridge fixation.

    Meh. I like their reviews.

Too many web reviews take themselves too seriously. They don't.

And the Blackstar love doesn't bother me. Not until they make a bass amp, which I still won't buy anyway

Johnny Demarco is the standard against which all demo videos should be measured !

I like The Captain and Chappers. To me they come across as genuine and likeable people and trustworthy too. Not lickable though.

I'm not their biggest fan but they do a much better job of making an entertaining video than most of the yank equivalents. And a WAY better job than most Brits.

ProGuitarShop and FrettedAmericana/PhilX are still the daddy of demo vids, but I often watch the Anderton's stuff all through.

And I particularly enjoyed the Firebird X vid where they were trying to be nice but it was patently obvious they thought it was guff

Burgerman666 Youtube demos are really good, although it could end up costing a you fortune in boutique pedals !

I totally agree. With the other guy you get a good idea of, dur, what the guitar sounds like, with Chappers it's more a case of what oodles of gain sounds like (i.e. pretty much the same, whatever guitar you use).
