One I do want to mention, however, is Alex Lifeson (a guy whose tone I don't especially like, normally) in La Villa Strangiato - the quiet breakdown in the middle.. Cleanish guitar, touch of reverb..then swelling the volume control into a lovely loud twiddle session. Ace.
I've no idea about my 5 but I do like the sound of the guitars on early Rush ( inc the Zeppish Working Man). After Lifeson discovered chorus he went a bit bollocks.

This. Chorus is an effect I hate with a passion at the best of times...

Useful for instant late 70's/early 80's tone if you are in a covers band though!

Is this enough reason to post possibly my favourite song of the 80's?

Vogg from Decapitated - among the best metal tones ever:

Devin Townsend - always has such a huge, huge sound.

The Almighty Petrucci, particularly from 2 minutes in:

Always liked this big, ringing clean tone:

I know the huge natural reverb contributes, but this is just a spine-tinglingly magnificent tone:

Also, a special mention must go to David Gilmour - I know The Division Bell is much-maligned, but it has some of his finest tonal moments IMO:

And this truly magnificent slide solo from 5:15:

My name is Connor and I have a GAS problem.

I also have some videos of myself playing guitar. Here they are.

Andy Latimer - everything he did with Camel. I say he's Der ToneMeister
Laurie Wisefield - the Living Proof solo on Live Dates Vol II
Ritchie Blackmore - most of his stuff
Jan Akkerman - all of Moving Waves but especially Eruption
Dave Clemson - his GoldTop on Valentyne Suite from the Colosseum Reunion Gig in Cologne 1994

Once upon a time I'd have agreed with you. These days I have one and I use it, subtly. I hate chorus when overused. The first time I became aware of it being used sensibly was hearing John Etheridge.
