God knows how/why I got into Grand Funk but 20 + years ago I found all their albums in second hand shops. All sold back now to other second hand shops but I have fond memories of them and a compilation CD I sometimes dig out. They did start making terrible AOR twaddle at some point but the earlier stuff with the big fat bass lines was great.

    Great band.

I know that's the obvious song that everyone knows, but still.
My name is Connor and I have a GAS problem.

I also have some videos of myself playing guitar. Here they are.

That's my story exactly (well, more like 30 years ago if I think about it!) The difference with me though is that I kept them all! Certainly couldn't part with coin shaped E Pluribus Funk or Shinin On (with 3D glasses!). I got hooked on the early stuff but later got more into the more polished records with Craig Frost on keys. I still think that Caught in the act is one of the best live albums out there.

    1) Doesn't really come across via YouTube but the Stereolab "Dots and Loops" era bass sound always gets me. Suspect its something like an old Precision with flats. Nothing like a modern tone but I love the tic-tac sound.

    2) Predictable enough but Norman Watt-Roy's sound on Rhythm Stick is amazing. I know a lot of it is about the killer lines but the tone is so incredibly punchy.

    3) Again, as much about the line as the tone but Macca's tone on "Something" is amazing. It actually allows him to be incredibly inventive without pissing all over the song. I find the bass part to this to be an absolute masterclass:

It is the most shattering experience of a young man's life, when one morning he awakes, and quite reasonably says to himself: "I will never play the Dane"

Too many to name, but here's a few:

John Entwhistle (sic?) My Generation and Eminence Front

Cliff Burton Orion from Master Of Puppets

    Frank Bello "Got the Time?"

I really like Sharlee D'Angelo, Steve Harris, and David Elleffson's tones, but can't cite any examples at the moment...

I fully agree with Justin Chancellor, too!

Ronnie Wood in the Jeff Beck Group, early Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, Lemmy, Andy Fraser, Krist Novoselic, early Dave Ellefson -

Just a few that spring to mind.

    It's the perfect album.

Another huge fan of the early Grand Funk bass sound.

A bump from me here, but I can't believe I didn't add Billy Gould from Faith No More to this:

    Awesome.
