    Default PA question

    Can anyone help
I have a yamaha P7000 amp running 2 yamaha sv115 speakers which are 8 ohm and want to add a pair of peavey 15" subs. The subs are 4 ohm with built in crossovers. How should they be connected or is it not possible to run 8 and 4 ohm speakers together ?

The load you are presenting it if you connect into the subs and out to the tops is nominally 4+8/ 2= 6 ohms , from the specs it should deliver approx 390 watts at 4 ohms so if your cabs total power rating are below this figure you should be ok

Not quite sure how you intend to connect the speakers to the subs.
In parallel? In which case the impedance is 1/4+1/8 =2.6 Ohms. The spec for the Yamaha amps includes a 2 Ohm rating so that is ok.

If you are running out of the subs crossovers the response will be a bit off since the Xover will have been calculated for a 4 Ohm load (I would think) . At some frequency all the speakers are still in parallel but THAT amp can take it.

Sorry Brain fuddled due to too much cider (at least I wasn't on ebay!) Ecc83 is correct the impedance will be nearer 2 ohms (I knew that in my head) So as the amp works down to 2ohms speakers should work. If the Peavey hasn't been messed around with the link out should be wired parallel however the bit about the total power rating still stands

If you normally run the PA in mono then a good idea would be to run the tops of one channel and the bins from the other. That way you could hi pass everything at around 80hz before it gets to the Yamahas to make life a lot easier for them, as well as being able to indendently vary the amount of power feeding the bins. Just connecting everything in parallel is ok load wise but your get better results running the tops off one channel and the bins from the other.
